Sage is known by the alternative names Garden Sage, Red Sage and Dalmatian Sage. Grownextensively in the Mediterranean, Sage now also grows in North America. Many Italians regularly eat the leaves of sage as part of a healthy diet. Sage has been used for centuries and is popular for its Anti-Oxidant properties. It was traditionally used to soothe bites, ease aching muscles and reduce indigestion. Sage is a drying herb and thus may be useful for reducing mucous and congestion, and also may help reduce perspiration. Sage is used by herbalists to balance the hormonal system and can help irregular, heavy or painful periods as well as reducing menopausal symptoms such as night sweats and hot flushes.It is said to benefit the digestive system by improving the digestive secretions, calming the digestive tract and reducing indigestion.
