The Government's Chief Medical Officer recommends that all women planning a pregnancy should take a 400ug supplement prior to conception and until the 12th. week of pregnancy. This recommendation has been made following research results, which positively link an intake of 400 ug to a reduction of the risk of the development of neural tube defects in the foetus.
